Newcastle fought back from two goals down as Jacob Ramsey's late strike rescued a 2-2 against Bournemouth at St James' Park.
Bournemouth appeared on track for their first win under Marco Rose after an early strike from Marcus Tavernier and a Malick Thiaw own goal, only to blow a late lead for the third straight game.
Harvey Barnes halved the deficit with a stunning curler 27 seconds after the kick-off following Bournemouth's second goal, before substitute Ramsey found the bottom corner in the 88th minute to continue Newcastle's unbeaten start under Matthias Jaissle.
Bournemouth were the better side overall, attempting 17 shots compared to only eight from the lacklustre hosts, but Ramsey's leveller follows crucial stoppage-time goals conceded in their games against Manchester City and Everton.
The Cherries have lost seven points from winning positions this term. They are the first side in Premier League history to score the opening goal in their first three games and fail to win any of them.
Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle to TNT Sports: "Mixed feelings.
"Happy for that spirit, that belief the lads were showing until the end together with the crowd. I felt the energy and felt if we had five or 10 minutes more we could win this game.
"But the first half was not expected. This is something we need to improve. This is part of the journey.
"We knew Bournemouth would come with everything; they always show great intensity and if you do not compete with that you get problems.
"We struggled with that in the first half but the lads showed the right reaction."
Bournemouth boss Marco Rose to TNT Sports: "It is what it is.
"I'm really happy with the confidence the lads brought on the pitch today. Especially in the first half, we were so good. We could have scored even a third goal.
"Then more or less from nothing we conceded a really nice goal to Newcastle, then the game is open here in this stadium. Second half we missed the chances, the transition situations, possession... In the end it's a draw and we have to deal with it.
"It's good that we're in situations to be able to win games. The other things we have to talk about, we have to finish games, we need to defend our own goal like it's the last game in our life.
"If you always concede one or two, you need to score three to win and that's pretty hard in the Premier League."

Ramsey's goal ensured Newcastle remain unbeaten under Eddie Howe's successor, but they might count themselves a little fortunate on this occasion. Bournemouth, by contrast, will wonder how they didn't win.
Jaissle has issues to address but Ramsey's impact showed his value to the side and there was also a positive debut from new £51m signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who emerged to warm applause when he came on as a second-half substitute.
The Belgian international is of course new to the Premier League. He was on the receiving end of a couple of meaty challenges to welcome him. But there were glimpses of his talent, too, including a clever drop of the shoulder to escape pressure in the box. He injected some much-needed energy and directness.

It was 90+1 vs Man City. Then 90+1 vs Everton. And now 88 at Newcastle. Bournemouth's failure to see out the final minutes of matches has cost them dearly in their first three games.
The late goals must be infuriating for Rose, whose side would have been sitting top of the table going into Saturday's 3pm games had they held out in the final minutes of their matches so far.
It will be a particularly galling journey back to the south coast from Newcastle, given how Bournemouth dominated the first half and missed two good chances to add to their tally before the break, with Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson off target.
Rose will also reflect on how his side seemingly allowed the game to fizzle out in that second half before Newcastle's smash-and-grab. Fine margins. Had they held on, it would have looked like a perfect away performance.
But Bournemouth's lack of intensity and focus in the final minutes has seen them give up precious points again.
